Burnt Out Betty

Burnt Out Betty

I don’t know about you, but with this new year is coming, I’m just ready to be out of 2024. It was a rough one for our family. Anyone else?

I’m ready for easy, cozy, simple things, and simpler times. One can only hope, right?

I’ve been trying to eat less processed foods. I also have a meat free, dairy free, low gluten diet. It’s not easy! Finding healthy recipes that aren’t complicated or really expensive has been hard. I’ll be sharing recipes on our Facebook group “Broke Betty” that I tested myself over the years if you are looking for some food inspiration for the new year!

When I created this lifestyle blog, I randomly thought of the name “Broke Betty.” I posted about it everywhere, and then I googled it. In the urban dictionary it means “a female who is falling apart.” Someone who is always broke, injured, or tired. Yep, that tracks.

When I was younger, I loved Martha Stewart, and as a single mom, I did my best to learn to cook, bake, decorate, DIY, garden, and even make my own liquor. But in these perimenopausal times, I just don’t have that energy. I can’t be searching Pinterest for hours for something actually healthy with less than 10 ingredients, I need easy decorating and cleaning tips, and DIYs that are under $10. Really.

As much as I love the intricately handmade, perfectly curated, “Martha” vibe, it’s not practical for most women. And we don’t need even more pressure in our lives.

Behind the scenes, I’ve been pretty burnt out from managing my small business and trying to manage adulthood. Market season is over, and it was a doozy! I’m always using the new year as an excuse to make some changes or investigate what is or isn’t working in my life. I haven’t figured that out yet….but I do know that I want to spend more time writing, and less time editing reels and making “salesy” posts on IG. This just feels better to me!

But really, this is a safe space, for tired ass women, men, whomever needs a break from the curated social media perfection and wants some realistic inspiration. I can’t promise you much more than that!

I’ll end this week’s post with a good audible book recommendation. Because the last thing we need is one more project to do this week.

“Women Living Deliciously” by Florence Given. I’m about halfway through it, and it is just as good as her previous book, “Women Don’t Owe You Pretty,” which I bought for all the young women in my life. If anyone can light a fire under our tired old asses, it’s Florence! She’s an inspiration for living an unapologetically authentic life. And she has a really cute British accent!

Yes, I am doing approximately one million things right now. As all of us women are!

And no, I have no idea what I’m doing, but I love trying new things and having many projects to focus on. Thank you for reading, and see you in 2025, if we all survive.
